I wrote a poem...

No comments:
So I'm not sure whether its that great a poem, but I quite like it so yeah. I thought it was a nice way of putting it, really. Its just my personal feelings talking here so if you don't like it, please just leave it be - it took ages to make it rhyme!

The way I like to look at her
Feels different to a friend
The way my tummy flips
Confuses me no end

I love her freckled nose
And I'd like to kiss
Her smile
But when she gets close I want to run a mile

Some say it's not normal
For a girl to feel this way
But now I decided
They can deal with it today

I cannot live these lies!
But I see your judging eyes
Why should it matter that
I like girls and I like guys?

Ladies and gentlemen,
Boys and girls,
What's the big deal
If there's love in this world?

Too long we have judged,
Hated,
Despised,
But today I'm proud to say
I'm me (and I'm bi)

I Blame My Poetry Obsession on This Book!

4 comments:
So, I've been writing a lot of free verse poetry these past few days. Like a maniac, I would even dare say. It all began from a book I found at the library. I would highly recommend you to read it if you've always wanted to write poetry, but don't know where to start. Lyne encourages you to not try to rhyme, but to just go ahead and put yours words down.

A shocker for you (and for me, as well): In just four days, I've written 103 short poems! But they're just 'poem-sketches', the book will explain what it is. Basically, they're the raw material that still needs the rewriting and refining. :)
[Yes, I do feel quite accomplished, indeed!]

So, here's the book that has gotten me into such a frenzy:

"Writing poetry from the inside out: finding your voice through the craft of poetry"
by Sandford (Sandy) Lyne

I should warn you, though, reading this is dangerous! So be careful!

And here ends the post of MaidenStar...
Till next time, tot tot, my lovelies!

Invisible

I turned invisible not long ago--
Thought I was seen; I wasn't, though.
Friends' eyes slip past, and when I wave and smile
They talk to other, closer friends for a while.
So then I sit alone, live in thin air,
Or, turning others visible, I stare.

Marbles

I live in the clear space of a marble;
No-one else can see
The way that it is inside of there,
But that's what makes me me.

Autumn

2 comments:

Autumn

Has let itself be known.

Beyond this point crimson fire

has burned through the horizon.

A shower of leaves blaze through

the swaying brown wheat, mournful

at its harvest.

The pink berry lives in the fields of orange.

Sleek pines counter the fluid movement of color.

We have lived through the world together,

Gazing at the textiles of fall.

The yellow shores and the azure bay;

The russet meadows and the neon wildflowers.

Draping vines move their petaled fronds

with their transparent silver and shades of gold.

And here are the chestnut oaks as we speed towards the

Rising Sun,

the world

gray in the

morning.

Guilty as charged

3 comments:
Here is a poem I wrote recently. Please tell me what you think.

Guilty as charged

Oh my tummy be quiet

This is not another diet

This is your fault for yearning

such a delicious yummy craving

The chocolate was sweet and creamy

The icing melt in the mouth

And now we’re both suffering

And you keep shouting

“Oh please just one more bite”

But I’ve made up my mind

Nothing but a lemon rind

And maybe some salad

To go with that ballad

It’s a new year

And I promise you this

No more cake for us

No sir not a bit

But Easter is only up the hill

And I’m running out of will

For the shop is gloating

With it’s chocolate egg coating

And me, poor me in despair

That is it, I give up

Call the cops, I’m guilty

But remember this and remember it true

Life needs some frosting and so do you

In Front Of A Screen

4 comments:
Sitting alone
In front of a screen
Laughing at HP memes
On Pinterest
Then eating ice-cream
While watching YouTube
Sitting with friends
Still in front of a screen
This time
Revising
Trying
For French
While eating Pringles
Fun

Two hours later
Pinterest has crashed
YouTube is boring
Friends have gone home
Pringles finished
Still Fun.

Winter ~ A Poem

1 comment:
Just a little Poem I wrote about winter.

Dancing and glittering, snowflakes fall
Red noses and pink cheeks of children out playing
Jolly christmas carollers at your door
Mince pie, roast turkey, yum!
Presents unwrapped from novelty paper
Reading traditional tales on Christmas Eve
Long walks through the snowy park
How everyone loves winter

Peace Out,
Erin x

The Flame Within

1 comment:
Suburban
                Sparrows
                                                Treetops in the
                                                                                                Distance
The breath
                                Of
                                                Ice
Fire of shame

October 12th

1 comment:
The cold and quiet clouds
Are encapsulated in a cage of magnificence.
(Weeping vines sweep shoulder to shoulder.)
The city is suspended above us
And forever is beyond us.
One day I’ll take you to the marshes
Where the birds fly free.

Note to Self

1 comment:
In the mirror is my worst enemy and greatest friend.
You convey so little,
Your heart is late.
You trail the blazing stars and then -
You stop.

Pale as snow and dark like a jungle,
In the sun her hair glitters like a yellow forest.
A red rose and a white lily,
(And a bright blue sky as an afterthought.)

Beauty in the greatest,
Greatest is the true.
Truth in those who love you.
Love is beautiful.

Ode to Creativity

1 comment:
Let your
Imaginings
Take you away from your usual reality

[The stigmatism makes the trees look shrouded in peacock feathers. The charred wood speaks of beginnings.]

Your dreams
Can only take you so far

[The orange sun emerges like a city light. It’s a globe of fire, continents of flame. But the People of the Sun are burned by ice.]

Your heart
            Can lead the way,
                        But creativity will guide you

[Many things are held sacred in this world: the voices of the feathered things, the coming of Dawn, the mysteries of the end. Do you see your imaginings among them?]

Your dreams
            Can make you stronger
                        Love will make you wiser

[The fog drips down on the sidewalks. Is this what it feels like to be suspended in a cloud? Your breathththth encapsulated in the pearly white mist?]

As the winter goes,
            Spring will come
                        Will your colors burst free?

[The ocean stretches forever, the first sustenance. You always face the east when you swing, because that is where you came from. Uncertain waves channel the essence of infinity. What would it be like to fall into them?]

Be akin to
            Wonder
                        Watch the wild things

Insects

No comments:

The gypsy moth

And tarantula hawk

Spun around in light.

The white-lined sphinx

And the weevil and ticks

Die and wed in night.

Cotton leafworms

And monarch butterflies

Twirl in the blight.

Hornets, aphids,

The damsel fly and all,

Rule like one tonight.

Sometimes...

1 comment:
Sometimes, you just want to sit around,
Because you're tired, miserable, ill
Sometimes, you just want to run around,
Because you're bored, happy, trying to be annoying,
Sometimes, you just want to cry,
With rage, sadness, or joy
Sometimes, you just want to read,
Whether it's you're favourite childhood book, the lastest magazine, or some poetry
Or maybe, you just want to read this.

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.

Last Saturday

2 comments:
Last Saturday

Washing the morning dishes,
Just minding my own business,
(A bit grudging, I must add),
When down it rained, beauty-clad.

Strains of pleasing melody,
Triads in sweet harmony,
I cast eyes outward, wonder!
The music did not flounder.

Down it wafted from above,
Gently, gently, like a dove;
Master fingers undisclosed,
As they played the highs and lows.

I hurried with the washing,
No sign of tuneless humming.
Finally done, I grabbed the leash
As excuse of remedy.

With my dog, hasted to sidewalk
And slowed my pace to a walk.
Ears now alert, eyes akin,
For the music was now dim.

Now my gaze is on high grounds,
Still the rapturous effects sounds.
With a sudden jolt, I knew,
Keys I used to play so true.

Oh, joy! One of my Bach piece!
Now the skillful play has ceased
Fleeting time, I'm back at home
The piano's where I roam.

This all really happened, although the “my Bach piece” wasn't. Inspired by the incident, I decided to write it down. This was my best in-one-hour poem I've ever written. ^^

Life Has Loveliness to Sell

1 comment:
Hey all! Sorry, I haven't been on in forever, but I think I might have some more time nowadays. There are so many new members! Welcome, and I hope you enjoy participating in Blog for Joy!

My choir just got music for our fall concert. Among these include a SSA (Soprano 1, Soprano 2, Alto) piece called Life Has Loveliness to Sell. It's a beautiful song, and the lyrics are from the poem (also called Life Has Loveliness to Sell) by Sara Teasdale. Here it is!

Life has loveliness to sell,
All beautiful and splendid things;
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fire that sways and sings,
And children’s faces looking up,
Holding wonder like a cup.

Life has loveliness to sell;
Music like a curve of gold,
Scent of pine trees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And, for the Spirit’s still delight,
Holy thoughts that star the night.

Give all you have for loveliness;
Buy it, and never count the cost!
For one white, singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost;
And for a breath of ecstasy,
Give all you have been, or could be.

Here's the link for the song:

Please listen!

Anyway, I'm glad to be back!
Vale, amici!

Wish It's Forever & Heartbreaker

1 comment:
Two short free verse poems I wrote when I was waiting for a program to start. xD

Wish It's Forever
Twilight
Summer midnight
Gently falling blossoms
Whispers flitting through the endless
Time hushed

Heartbreaker
Wretched peer
Anxious longing
Clenching, unclenching grip
Oh, what are you trying to find
In me?

A POEM From MOI (complete and utter gibberish, but hey, it makes sense(: )

2 comments:
The cupcake sat down on the cold oven stove,
And wondered about what the donkey had told,
'Don't count your chickens before they hatch',
As the baker baked up another batch,
But if you're not allowed to count what's not there,
Then how on Earth is that possibly fair,
If once you've made a decent cake,
(All sugar and icing and chocolate at stake),
Then the cake not eaten is actually wrong..
So don't count your cupcakes before they've all gone.

Whaddya think?

How This Came To Be

4 comments:
This was a real experience by me; it all truly happened just a couple nights ago. Don't you think the whole thing is somewhat ironic? xD

Can you “see” the picture I'm trying to portray here through the usage of few words? I've always known that little words, when used correctly and fittingly, is powerful, but I know know how powerful. Hence my trying my hand at it. How well it came out, I don't know.

Please comment on what you think about this free verse, and how I can improve on my writing! ^^ (I promise I won't bite!)

How This Came To Be

End of day
Morales low
Tired
Stressed
Tensions high
Stomachache
Pain
Inquiries
Scolded
Rebuked
Guilty
Misty eyes
Blurred vision
Breaks down
Quiet weeping
Pauses
Runs upstairs
Collapses on bed
Sobbing
Wailing
Brokenness
Not comforted
None understands
Forgotten bedtime hug
Sorrowful
Depressed
Self-pity
Trickling wetness
Damp pillow
Once more
Awake
Thinking
Midnight
Slow motions
Bed creaking
Flipped switch
Blinding light
Still
Blinking
Adjusting
Rummaging
Paper
Pen
Starts
